Achtung Baby indeed.
Last night in New Jersey, U2 delivered a two-and-a-half hour career-spanning set that leaned heavily on the Nineties while slipping in a tribute to the late E Street Band saxophonist Clarence Clemons. The crowd at the New Meadowlands Stadium was given tastes of No Line on the Horizon, Zooropa and Pop from the band’s weighty discography.
But the group kicked things off on the homestretch of the 360 Tour by heading back to 1991 for a dip into four consecutive songs from Achtung Baby – which peaked with Bono joining The Edge on guitar for the abrasive rocker “The Fly.” As the show wound down, Bono and company gave the enthusiastic Jersey audience as taste of home with Bruce Springsteen’s “Jungleland” worked into the typical show closer.
